19 of Daniil Medvedev's twenty-one championships have been won on hard surfaces

A comeback Daniil Medvedev claimed his initial trophy for nearly 30 months with a win over Corentin Moutet in the tournament title decider.

The Russian, a former world number one, has experienced a torrid year, achieving just one win at the big events and undergoing a meltdown at the American major.

His inconsistency on the tennis tour - and difficulties with his serve in especial - led to him exiting of the world's top 10 and finally parting ways with long-time mentor Gilles Cervara.

Presently working with Thomas Johansson and Rohan Goetzke, Medvedev has consistently advanced in the past month - climaxing in a closely contested competitive triumph over challenger Moutet.

It is Medvedev's maiden title after the Italian tournament and initial on a hard court after spring of 2023.

The win also means the Russian has secured 21 titles at 21 distinct events.

"It's the first time I have attended a competition with my children at once, so to secure a trophy is especially meaningful," stated ranked player Daniil Medvedev.

"This title is in dedication of my younger daughter Victoria, because the first title I got when my first daughter her name was born was for her."

The tennis star, the former major winner, had been defeated in his previous six finals, featuring in the German tournament earlier this year.

The player's retrieving play style and regular reactions on the playing surface had prompted some to doubt if his ability to compete at the top level was over.

Yet the player has made changes in the past month, attempting to approach the net and perform aggressively, backed up by an improved service.

Medvedev fought back from a break down in the opening set against the difficult Moutet, taking 4 of the final five points to take the lead.

The pair traded breaks in the second set before the Frenchman, striving for his initial professional championship, took control to create a decider.

The opponent defended four early-game chances in a competitive final set before Medvedev won the break to fifteen to close out the victory.

Fittingly, Medvedev clinched victory with a rally at the front of the court, with the Frenchman failing to control a shot after a lengthy match.
