Approximately 50 automobiles have been smeared with what seems to be human blood in the German municipality of Hanau close to Frankfurt, as reported by police.
Cars, walls and postboxes were defaced, sometimes with swastikas, they announced in a official communication.
Officers state they were contacted late on Wednesday evening, when a man discovered that a automobile in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been marked with a reddish liquid.
The substance had been drawn in the pattern of a banned symbol, they stated.
Officers then found numerous other vandalized cars and house walls in the adjacent neighborhood.
Nazi symbols are prohibited in Germany under laws prohibiting the visible presentation of Nazi symbols.
Police say early analysis indicate the substance was probably blood from a person.
"At present there remains no clue as to its source; investigators are not yet aware of any physical harm in relation with the incident," they stated.
Local authorities stated they were attempting "to solve the mystery" and have requested to the public for tips.
A high-ranking representative stated the incident left him speechless and required to be addressed promptly.
"This event hits the center of Hanau and revives the wounds of the right-wing violent incident in 2020," he wrote on a platform, referring to the death of nine individuals by a gunman aiming at people of migrant background in five years prior.
